I've seen many posts about 'disk overloaded', but I don't understand WHY this problem exists. I've researched dozens of threads about the problem and none of them help me. I have, for years, run ut 2.2.1 (latest) on an XP machine. I never had a single issue with this. Right-click on the uTorrent folder and select Delete. Lastly, go to your Desktop and open Recycle Bin. Right-click on the uTorrent folder and click on Delete to remove the folder permanently on your hard drive. Now, try to launch the uTorrent app once again and re-download your files to see if uTorrent continues not to respond. Utorrent Says Disk Overloaded

this issue just came up recently, everything was working fine

Is your uTorrent app not responding when you try to download files or even when you just let it run in the background?

It is safe to say that uTorrent is one of the most popular torrent clients used for downloading a variety of files like movies, software, and music. However, even the best-performing programs out there still encounter a few hiccups once in a while.

There have been reports from several users that they are experiencing performance issues with uTorrent when they try to download files on the client. To be specific, the uTorrent client turns into a not responding state and crashes every time you use it to download files.

Today, we are going to show you a few solutions we’ve found to be helpful that you can do to fix the uTorrent not responding issue on your computer. By the end of this post, you should be able to download your torrent files using uTorrent without any problems.

Let’s get started.

Disk

1. Restart the uTorrent App.

If the uTorrent app on your computer is not responding, then the first thing you should do is restart the app. The program may have encountered a temporary glitch or error, which caused the app to freeze and crash.

To fix this, you can try restarting the uTorrent app using the Task Manager on your Windows computer.

Check out the steps below to guide you through the process:

  1. First, while uTorrent is in a not responding state, press on the CTRL + ALT + DELbuttons on your keyboard and click on Task Managerfrom the selection screen.
  2. After that, scroll down and click on theuTorrentclient from the list of programs running in the background.
  3. Next, click on the End Task button to close the uTorrent client.
  1. Lastly, go back to your Desktopand launch the uTorrent app.

Now, try to download a few files using the client to see if uTorrent would still enter a not responding state.

However, if the uTorrent not responding problem still occurs after restarting the program, you can try restarting your computer.

2. Restart Your Computer.

When programs on your computer encounter performance issues, it is possible that your operating system is not functioning properly, or it may have encountered a temporary glitch or error while running. To go about fixing this, you can try rebooting the computer to allow the operating system to reload its system files.

To restart your computer, check out the steps below:

  1. On your computer, press on the Windows Keyon your keyboard to open the Startmenu.
  2. After that, click on thePowerbutton to open the Power Optionsmenu.
  3. Lastly, click on Restart to begin rebooting your computer.

After your computer completely boots up, try starting the uTorrent client and download a few files to see if uTorrent would still enter a not responding state on your computer.

3. Run uTorrent as an Administrator

Another reason for uTorrent to freeze and crash is if it cannot properly access your computer’s resources. It is possible that the program lacks permissions and privileges to access certain system files that are essential for the program to run properly.

In this case, you can try running the program as an Administrator to bypass any restrictions on your operating system. The steps below will show you how you can run uTorrent as an administrator:

  1. On your computer, close theuTorrentclient.
  2. Now, go to your Desktop and right-click on theuTorrent icon.
  3. After that, click onRun as an Administrator.
  1. Lastly, a pop-up message will appear verifying if you want to run the program as an administrator. Click on Yes.

Again, try to download a few files using the client to see if the problem still resurfaces. If the issue still persists, keep reading.

4. Make Sure That Utorrent Is Already Running Before Downloading Files.

According to a few users over on the uTorrent community forum, the not responding issue was resolved when they ran the uTorrent client first before opening any torrent files on their computer.

As it turns out, launching the uTorrent client and opening a torrent file at the same time requires more system resources, which cause the app to freeze or crash.

Now, the workaround for this is pretty straightforward! You just have to ensure that you run the uTorrent client first from your Desktop. Then, go to the File Explorer and open the torrent files that you want to download.

On the other hand, if this method did not work and the uTorrent client still enters a not responding state when you try downloading files, you can also opt to disable your proxy settings, which we will show you how next.

5. Disabling Proxy Settings on Your Computer.

Proxy servers are often used for public networks and connections on offices. Now, if you are trying to download files using a public connection like the Wi-Fi at your office or a local library, it is possible that your proxy settings are blocking some ports that are used by uTorrent to access the internet.

To fix this, you can disable the proxy server on your computer while downloading files using uTorrent. The steps below will guide you on how to disable the proxy settings on your Windows PC:

  1. On your computer, press on the Windows Key + R to launch the Run Command Box.
  2. After that, typeintecpl.cpl and hitEnter to open the Local Area Network Settings.
  1. Now, click on the Connectionstab and select LAN Settings.
  2. Lastly, uncheck the Use a Proxy Server for your LAN option on the settings page and click OKto save the changes.

Next, go back to the uTorrent client and try downloading a few files on the client to see if the not responding issue is resolved.

6. Allow uTorrent on Your Firewall.

Another cause for the uTorrent program to crash is your Windows Firewall settings. Windows Firewall is a built-in feature of the Windows operating system that protects your computer from any malware.

However, when uTorrent tries to download files, it uses a lot of internet bandwidth, and the Firewall may see this as malicious activity and restrict the program, making it unresponsive.

To fix this, you can try allowing the uTorrent from your Firewall settings. Follow the steps below to guide you through the process:

  1. On your computer, press on the Windows Key + Sand search for Firewall.
  2. After that, click on Open to launch theWindows Firewall and Network Protection Settings.
  3. Now, click on the Allow an App Through Firewall button.
  1. Inside the settings page, click onChange Settingsand make sure that the two checkboxes at the side of uTorrentclient are marked checked.
  2. Lastly, save the changes and exit the Windows Firewall settings.

Again, go back to the uTorrent app and try testing by downloading a few files using the client to see if the uTorrent still gets unresponsive.

7. Disable Third-Party Antivirus Software.

If you have third-party antivirus programs installed, it is worth considering that they may be of what’s causing the uTorrent client not to respond.

More often than not, antivirus programs mark any torrent activity on your computer as a virus or a threat to your computer. We’ve seen this happen with the other torrent downloading services such as BitTorrent, Vuze, and qBittorrent.

However, if you are confident that the file you are downloading is safe, then you can try disabling your antivirus software temporarily whenever you are using the uTorrent app. This will help avoid any issues on the uTorrent program and the file you are trying to download.

On the other hand, if uTorrent still freezes after disabling your antivirus protection, you can try deleting uTorrent’s app data on your computer.

8. Delete uTorrent’s App Data on Your Computer.

uTorrent stores a small amount of data on your computer, which contains information on the torrent files that you are accessing and downloading.

These “small amounts of data” are essential in retaining the progress of the file that you download whenever you close the uTorrent app or even if you turn off your computer.

However, if you encounter the not responding issue when you go about downloading files on uTorrent, it may be so that the app data may have gotten corrupted during use, which is causing the problem.

To fix this, you can try clearing the program’s app data and just restart the download process of your files:

  1. On your computer, press on the Windows Key + R to open the Run Command Box.
  2. After that, type%appdata% and hit Enter.
  1. This will open the Appdata Folder on your computer. Right-click on the uTorrent folder and select Delete.
  1. Lastly, go to your Desktop and open Recycle Bin. Right-click on the uTorrentfolder and click on Delete to remove the folder permanently on your hard drive.

Now, try to launch the uTorrent app once again and re-download your files to see if uTorrent continues not to respond.

9. Reinstall the uTorrent Client.

If none of the methods above worked to fix the issue on the uTorrent client, then you could try reinstalling the program. Again, it’s possible that some of the uTorrent’s application files got damaged during use, which causes the issue.

A fresh copy of the software can resolve this and ensure that you’re using the latest version of uTorrent.

  1. Lastly, go to uTorrent’s website and download the latest version of the client. You can try testing by downloading a few files after the uTorrent has been completely installed.

On the other hand, if the issue still occurs, the problem can be related to your actual computer. It is possible that your system is infected with malware, which causes instability when you try to use the uTorrent client as the malware uses most of your computer’s resources.
